“Twinsbet” Arena Head A. Žiauberis: “We aim to be the best acoustically sounding arena in the Baltic States.”
This week, the country’s biggest event organizers gathered at the Vilnius “Twinsbet” Arena, which opened its doors after renovation works. During a special private event, they were presented with one of the arena’s main upgrades: the acoustic improvements.
“It’s a great pleasure to invite people to come back to our arena after the break and create celebrations for the citizens of Vilnius and the city’s guests. Acoustics was a priority during the renovation, so we carried out a detailed acoustic study and did a lot of work.
The echoing time in the re-opened arena is almost twice as short. We have already invited the event organizers to find out exactly that, and Arena visitors will be able to hear the new sound at the upcoming events. Our goal is to become the best acoustically sounding arena in the Baltics, so we plan to continue improving the acoustics,” – said Andrius Žiauberis, the Head of “Twinsbet” Arena.
During the event, the acoustic renovation works were presented by Viktoras Mekas, the head of the company “Akustika Plus”, who was in charge of the project, and the possibilities of sound equipment were presented by Valdemaras Karpuška, the sound director.
Immediately afterward, the participants were invited to get acquainted with the new sound of the arena by listening to a live performance by Justė Kraujelytė and her original band.
“It’s great that the arena is not standing still; it’s improving, and we have a great recovery. What I heard today was extremely pleasing to my ear, and I think it will be very pleasing to all those attending the Arena concerts. A big step forward has been made, and this is very pleasing and, I think, will be pleasing for the whole music market”, – said Martynas Tyla, organizer of events and projects and music producer, as he shared his impressions.
To improve the arena’s acoustics, more than 4,500 square metres of acoustic panels were installed in the main hall, halving the reverberation time. The upgrades include an additional 30 tonnes of structural reinforcement to the roof. Over EUR 1 million has been invested in renovating the arena’s acoustics.
“The first stage solutions made the sound field much smoother, the clarity of the speech – what is being sung, what is being said – became more apparent. After the second stage, when we will deal with the remaining details and look at the areas that still need to be improved, the remaining sound artifacts will emerge. We joke loudspeakers can emit that sound, but only acoustic and architectural solutions can collapse sound. So, in this case, the aim was to keep the space lively enough to allow the organizers’ music and equipment to shine. I think the result today is excellent,” said V. Mekas.
In total, almost EUR 11 million has been invested in the arena’s renovation. In addition to the acoustics, the arena has also undergone a lighting upgrade. Over 2000 luminaires throughout the building have been replaced with more sustainable LED luminaires. At the same time, as many as 100 individually controlled luminaires have been installed in the main hall, allowing organizers to realize a wide range of creative solutions without renting additional equipment from third parties.
Some of the most important upgrades to the arena include solutions to improve the visitor experience. To achieve this, the spaces have been redesigned for better traffic flow, sectors have been renumbered, the wayfinding system has been updated, and automatic drink dispensers, self-service snack machines, and over 200 TV screens in the common areas were installed. The renovation includes over 30 km of new internet cabling, more service points, upgraded bar equipment, toilets, and a cash-free environment.
